Quick Start Guide

(Note: Most points are referenced to the Full Manual below by number in parentheses.)

  1. Your Speaker Pillow comes fully assembled with a speaker inside and an external audio cable with volume control (2). See Figure 1 above.
  2. Lay the Speaker Pillow on top of one or two pillows with the speaker facing the foot of the bed and the open end toward the top of the bed, in portrait mode. See Fig. 2 above. The Speaker Pillow rests on top of your raised ear (1).
  3. Tie a rolled-up towel to the top of the Speaker Pillow with the provided cord (11). Place the rolled-up towel behind your lower pillow, on the mattress, and just in front of the headboard or top of the bed. Adjust the cord length as needed so that the flat side of the pillow is secured to the top of the pillow. This will usually prevent your Speaker Pillow from tipping off your head. See Fig. 2 above. When you don't want to use the Speaker Pillow any more, just push it towards the headboard.
  4. If necessary, further stabilize the Speaker Pillow by placing a second rolled-up towel just above the first and under the head cord (11).
  5. A rolled-up side towel tied in front of your eyes or behind your head is highly recommended but optional (Fig. 3), but at a minimum, use a hand towel on top of your Speaker Pillow, covering your head and eyes when going to sleep (11). When you want to see and hear the screen while using the Speaker Pillow, just push up any rolled up side towel, which you can also just flip to the other side.
  6. Run the speaker cord along the mattress at the top of the regular pillows and over to the side of the bed, where it plugs into the 3.5mm earphone jack (4) on your iPad, etc. The iPad should be placed on a side table (14).
  7. Adjust the sound volume on your iPad to nearly full, then adjust the volume on the speaker cord to a comfortable level. Rotate the volume wheel on the speaker cable toward the speaker to increase volume (5, 6).
  8. Open the Kindle app (free) and select an audiobook (7). I suggest Winnie-the-Pooh to start with.
  9. Alternatively, read any book using Apple VoiceOver (8).
  10. This setup can also be used for quietly listening to media while lying on your side in bed, as you watch the screen (3, 14).
  11. Adjust your position in bed for maximum “floating” (13).
  12. Set the Apple timer (9). I suggest starting with 30 minutes, but you may want to increase it to two hours or more. Experiment to find what works best for you.
  13. Set Auto Lock to “Never” (10). This only needs to be done once.
  14. Take advantage of additional tips for getting to sleep (15, 16, 17 & 18)
